Chris Abbott is the Founder and Executive Direction of Open Briefing, the world’s first civil society intelligence agency – an accessible platform for insight and analysis on key defense, security and foreign policy issues. Before founding Open Briefing, Chris was a prolific freelance researcher, writer, editor, and speaker for a range of government, corporate and civil society clients, from the British Ministry of Defense and Australian Federal Police to Greenpeace International.

Biography:

Before founding Open Briefing, Chris was a prolific freelance researcher, writer, editor, and speaker for a range of government, corporate and civil society clients, from the British Ministry of Defense and Australian Federal Police to Greenpeace International. He worked on reports and articles on topics such as climate risk management, policing of protests, the psychology of international relations, the security implications of climate change, and global security issues.

He spent five years at the Oxford Research Group, first as a Research Officer, then as a Programme Coordinator and Researcher, then finally as the Deputy Director and Sustainable Security Programme Director. While there, he worked to develop the new global security programme, directed the sustainable security programme, researched key security and foreign policy issues, and helped lead and manage the strategic development of the organization.

His published work includes pieces in Cosmpolis, New Internationalist, China Dialogue, Jane’s Police Review, Global Dashboard, and openDemocracy. He has done media interviews for ABC, BBC, Channel 4 News, Esquire, as well as a number of other news networks.

Academic Qualifications:

M.Litt in Social Anthropology from University of St. Andrews
BSc. (Hons.) Psychology from Royal Holloway, University of London
