Dr. James Joyner is Managing Editor at the Atlantic Council of the United States. He has previously worked as a management analyst at the Defense Information Systems Agency, managing editor of Strategic Insights, a journal of the Naval Postgraduate School’s Center for Contemporary Conflict, and taught political science at Troy University, Bainbridge College, and University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Dr. Joyner is Managing Editor at the Atlantic Council of the United States. Previously, he had worked as a management analyst at the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) and was the managing editor of Strategic Insights, a journal of the Naval Postgraduate School’s Center for Contemporary Conflict and acquisitions editor for international affairs at Brassey’s Inc., a Dulles, Virginia publisher that is now Potomac Books. He has also been a political science professor at Troy State University, Bainbridge College, and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Dr. Joyner also served in the U.S. Army from 1988 to 1992 and was a veteran of Operation Desert Storm. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Army Commendation medal, many other service medals and ribbons, and is a gradaute of the Airborne and Air Asssault schools.
He has published dozens of articles in publications such as International Studies Quarterly, the National Interest, Foreign Policy, World Politics Review, Strategic Insights, Tech Central Station/TCS Daily, Reason, the New Individualist, Legal Affairs, Human Events, and the Washington Examiner. He has also appeared on broadcast media such as the BBC, NPR, C-SPAN, MSNBC, Voice of America, Al Jazeera, Russia Today, and Air America. Outside the Betlway, a blog Dr. Joyner founded in 2003, was previously recognized with George Washington University’s Institute of Politics, Democracy, and the Internet’s Golden Dot Award for “Best Blog.”
