Biography

Dr. Alex Crowther has been involved in extensive government service, including a decade each in the Cold War, the post-Cold War era and the post 9/11 era. He has worked as a Western Hemisphere specialist, a strategist and a political advisor. He served overseas eight times: three times in Latin America, twice in Korea, twice in Iraq and once in Belgium. He has a variety of awards from the Departments of Defense and State as well as the Canadian government.
His work at the strategic level includes assignments to the Army Staff, the Joint Staff J5 (Strategic Plans & Policies), and as a Research Professor at the Strategic Studies Institute. He was personally selected to be a Counter-terrorism Advisor for the US Ambassador to Iraq, a Political Advisor for the Multi National Corps-Iraq Commander and a Special Assistant for the Supreme Allied Commander, Europe. He is currently an Adjunct Research Professor of National Security Studies at the Strategic Studies Institute.
Dr. Crowther has published several monographs, opinion editorials and chapters in edited volumes and has also been cited in numerous publications. He has experience teaching at the graduate level at the US Army War College and was an Invited Instructor at the Air Force Special Operations School.
He has extensive experience as a public speaker and as a conference organizer. He has presented at Miami, Kingston Ontario, and various locations in and around Washington DC. He was also an invited speaker at the Escola de Comando e Estado Maior do Exército (ECEME – the Brazilian Army Command & General Staff College/War College) in Rio de Janeiro Brazil and the Academia de Guerra (ACAGUE – the Chilean Army Command & General Staff College/War College) in Santiago Chile.
