Biography

Dr. Arolda Elbasani’s research interests lay at the intersection of European integration, democracy promotion, comparative democratization, accountability mechanisms, rule of law, nation- and state-building, state-church relations, and Islam with a focus on Turkey and Southeastern Europe. Additionally, she has written various articles focusing on politics and religion, democratization, Europe-Asia studies, Southeast European and Black Sea studies, Balkan and Near Eastern studies, and transitions and “Sudosteuropa”.

Dr. Elbasani has editing experience for various scholarly works relating to Islam and the Near East. Some of these works include Governing Islam and Religious Pluralism in New Democracies, Local Islam(s), The Revival of Islam in the Balkans, and European Integration and Transformation in Western Balkans.
