Dr. Elizabeth Iskander

Research Fellow in international relations at London School of Economics

Elizabeth Iskander is a research fellow in International Relations at the London School of Economics and Political Science. She holds a Ph.D. in Politics and International Studies from the University of Cambridge. Her research focuses on conflict resolution, politics and religion in the Middle East, with an emphasis on Egypt.

Dr Iskander’s work focuses on the politics, society and law of the Middle East, with particular reference to Egypt. Her research interests include Arabic media, identity politics,the role of religion in politics, the international relations of the Middle East and conflict resolution. She has previously worked on media, citizenship and identity in Egypt. Her current research is an analysis of Arabic media discourses concerning Iran and particularly Iran as a potential source of conflict for the Middle East region. The project builds on her research into media representations of sectarian conflict and her policy work on Iran and Middle East security.

Director of the Next Century Foundation’s research programme. A Middle East analyst and writer based in London, she has published in both the English and Arabic-language media and has a particular interest in the politics, law and society of Egypt and Iran. She is also currently a Ph.D. candidate in Politics and International.
