Mark Nelson has more than 15 years of varied engineering and R&D experience; including work related to petrochemical plant design, photovoltaics, fuel cells, battery technologies, algae biofuels process development, gas sensor development for automotive emissions monitoring and explosives detection, testing of alternative aviation fuels including flight testing, laser weapons, military electro-optical sensor systems, optical emissions from high upper atmospheric energy discharges, catalyst development, internal combustion engine testing, destructive testing of aerospace materials, physical vapor deposition process development for nanomaterials fabrication, nonlinear optics, and development of an additive manufacturing process for ceramics.

Mark has worked as an engineer at CB&I Lummus Petrochemical Technologies, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Ball Aerospace Corporation, the Army Research Laboratory at White Sands Missile Range, at the Federal Aviation Administration Technical Center (on contract) and the Air Force Research Laboratory (on contract). He is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese and has a basic knowledge of Russian, French, and Arabic.
