Counter Terrorism Expert at West Point

Dr. Molloy holds a PhD in Middle Eastern studies (Arabic language) from New York University. She taught Arabic as an adjunct assistant professor at NYU and Queens College (SUNY). Research interests and expertise involve Jihadi ideology, counter-terrorism research, medieval Arabic linguistic theory, Islamic legal reasoning, and Qur’anic exegesis.

Biography

Dr. Molloy holds a PhD in Middle Eastern studies (Arabic language) from New York University. She taught Arabic as an adjunct assistant professor at NYU and Queens College (SUNY). Research interests and expertise involve Jihadi ideology, counter-terrorism research, medieval Arabic linguistic theory, Islamic legal reasoning, and Qur’anic exegesis.

Dr. Molloy was also an FBI fellow at West Point’s Combating Terrorism Center, and continues to instruct as an independent consultant with the Center’s external education division for their regional Joint Terrorism Task Force training and Counter Terrorism Investigation Operations (CTIOPS). She designed the curriculum for the Center’s Arabic Familiarization course, Arabic Name Analysis and Phraseology. Within the FBI/JTTF training framework, Rebecca has also designed and presented a lecture on the history of Islam.

Dr. Molloy has been involved in Combating Terrorism Center projects since 2005, including the Islamic Imagery Project II (2010-2011, lead researcher), Gaining the Initiative project (2008), and the Salafi Ideology Project (Militant Ideology Atlas 2005-06). She is currently contracted through Contingent Security by InterPort Police as a Terrorism Intelligence Analyst.

Dr. Molloy has contributed to both mainstream and new media, publishing articles and reviews in academic journals, magazines and blogs, and has appeared on NPR. Some of her publications and reviews include: ”Partido de Allah and the Expansion of the Shi`I Crescent“, “Asymmetric Warfare and Suicide Attacks and in Islam—debunking the myth”, “Deconstructing Ibn Taymiyya’s views on suicidal missions“, and “The Inconvenient Texts“.
