Dr. Hentz is Professor and Chair of the Department of International Studies and Political Science at the Virginia Military Institute. He is editor-in-chief of the Taylor & Francis/Routledge quarterly journal African Security. He is currently revising his manuscript, The Nature of War in Africa, for publication.

Biography

Dr. Hentz is Professor and Chair of the Department of International Studies and Political Science at the Virginia Military Institute. He is the co-editor of New and Critical Security and Regionalism: Beyond the Nation State (2003), editor of Obligation of Empire: U.S. Grand Strategy for a New Century (2004), and editor of The Routledge African Security Handbook (Taylor & Francis/Routledge Press, 2013). Dr. Hentz is the author of South Africa and the Logic of Regional Cooperation (Indiana University Press, 2005). He is editor-in-chief of the Taylor & Francis/Routledge quarterly journal African Security.

From 1993-1994 he was a visiting scholar at Rand Afrikaans University (Johannesburg); in 2003, he was a visiting Fulbright Scholar at the Miklós Zrínyi National Defense University, Hungary; and in the summer of 2007, he was awarded the Duignan Distinguished Visiting Fellowship at Stanford University’s Hoover Institute. Dr. Hentz won the 2007 Outstanding Faculty Award for the state of Virginia, from the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia. In 2014, he won the Virginia Social Science Association (VSSA) award for scholarship in International Studies and Political Science. He is currently revising his manuscript, The Nature of War in Africa, for publication.
