Biography

Eamonn Gearon is a senior analyst for Wikistrat. He is also a co-founder and partner at his consulting firm, The Siwa Group. His company trains USG officials from the Department of State, Department of Defense and other agencies concerned with North Africa and the greater Middle East, as well as private sector clients. A professorial lecturer with Johns Hopkins, SAIS (Washington, D.C.), Gearon is a specialist in North African history, politics and security.

His latest book, The Sahara: A Cultural History, was praised by the BBC as “vital background reading for anyone keen to understand the deep roots of the Arab Spring.” He is a regular reviewer for the Times Literary Supplement, the Middle East Journal and other titles, and is the author and presenter of “Turning Points in the history of the Middle East” for the Great Courses (Dec. 2015).
